Advisory for Indian products in EU: 5 - 11 July 2022

In order to keep the Indian exporters informed of the rejections faced by Indian products in the EU and to take preventive actions FIEO is forwarding the Rapid Alert Systems for Food and Feed (RASFF) and for Non-Food Consumer Products (RAPEX) alerts on a weekly basis.
 
The alerts from EU generated during 5 - 11 July 2022 are as under:
 
1. France: Indian-origin Children’s sweatshirt withdrawn from market due to Entrapment issue
 
The sweatshirt has functional cords with free ends in the hood. They can become trapped during various activities of a child, leading to strangulation. The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Directive nor of the European standard EN 14682.
 
Description:  Black sweatshirt with hood printed with a dinosaur motif. The product was also sold online, in particular via Rakuten France.

2. Germany: Indian Hair dye containing Barium peroxide is forbidden in cosmetics destructed
 
According to the list of ingredients, the product contains Barium peroxide, which is forbidden in cosmetics and releases barium; the latter substance was found in the product (measured value: 18.1%). Barium can be easily absorbed and has toxic effects on the body impairing muscle, heart and kidney activity, leading to arrythmia, paralysis or gastrointestinal alterations. Furthermore, the product contains p-phenylenediamine (PPD)(measured value: 9.7%, respectively) with an insufficient coupling agent. Uncoupled PPD is an extreme skin sensitiser and can trigger allergic contact dermatitis. The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.
 
Description:  Henna hair dye. The product appears as a dark brown powder, with a hay-like smell.
