Advisory for Indian products in EU & Australia:  1 - 7 December 2020

A) In order to keep the Indian exporters informed of the rejections faced by Indian products in the EU and to take preventive actions FIEO is forwarding the Rapid Alert Systems for Food and Feed (RASFF) and for Non-Food Consumer Products (RAPEX) alerts on a weekly basis.
 
The alerts from EU and Australia generated during 1 - 7 December 2020 are as under:
 
1. Alert: Belgium has withdrawn Indian origin children’s dress from market due to Entrapment issue during various activities of a child.
The dress has long functional cords to be tied at the back of the waist area. They can become trapped during various activities of a child, leading to injuries. The product does not comply with the relevant European Standard EN 14682.

Measures taken by economic operators: Withdrawal of the product from the market (By: Retailer)

Description: Black child’s dress 4-year-old. The product was sold online.

2. Alert: Children's leggings set recalled by Belgium from customer to avoid injuries during various activities of a child.
The product bears long functional cords at the lower end. The cords may become trapped during various activities of a child, leading to injuries. / The product does not comply with the relevant European Standard EN 14682.

Measures ordered by public authorities (to: Importer): Recall of the product from end users.

3. Alert: Children's hooded sweater set recalled by Belgium from Customer to avoid injuries during various activities of a child.
The products bear drawstrings with free ends in the neck area.These drawstrings can become trapped during various activities of a child, leading to strangulation. / The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 14682.

  • Risk: Serious
  • Notification type: Food - alert - company's own check
 
5. Alert: Aflatoxins (B1 = 24; Tot. = 27 µg/kg - ppb) in brown basmati rice from India
  • Notification from: Netherlands
  • Risk: Serious
  • Notification type: Food - border rejection - border control - consignment detained
  • Action Taken: Official detention
 
6. Alert: Unauthorised substance ethylene oxide (>5 mg/kg - ppm) in burger bread with black sesame seeds from India, produced in Spain
  • Notification from: Spain
  • Risk: Serious
  • Notification type: Food - alert - company's own check
  • Action Taken: Withdrawal from the market
 
7. Alert: Unauthorised substance ethylene oxide (0.54 mg/kg - ppm) in organic sesame seeds from India used in grissini breadsticks from the Czech Republic
  • Notification from: Germany
  • Risk: Serious
  • Notification type: Food - alert - company's own check

B) Imported Food Section (Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment), has detected substances which are prohibited / banned / or in levels excess of permissible limits in food products imported from India to Australia.
 
1. Fruit cake rusk
  • Reason for fail: Composition - Additive Erythrosine not permitted in this food
  • Action taken: Future consignments of this food will be targeted at 100 per cent until the food demonstrates a history of compliance with Australian food requirements.
