Should you pursue your passion?

You may hear many times, mostly from the older generation, that passion won’t feed you. This may come from their experiences in the past when their parents or their friends have pursued their passion and ended up being broke or their business not taking off the ground successfully.

I can’t blame these people for negating the pursuit of one’s passion because true enough, passion alone won’t help you succeed. Persistence, a tough mindset, and connections are what you need to achieve success.

Many individuals develop a fear of coming out of their shell and maximizing their potential to reach the peak of success. This mindset can be damaging, especially for the younger generation. The reality is that some of us would rather stay in a stable job that we don’t enjoy (just to pay our bills) than to pursue what we are most passionate about.

Question now is, should you take the risk of pursuing your passion or not? If you’re still undecided, here are some of my suggestions for you to figure it out.

1.
Soul search
Look for a solo retreat to start with.  Though it sounds cheesy, ask yourself, "How do I see myself five years from now?" If your current situation is not going to help you get to the place where you want to be – I hate to say it – but you are wasting your time. Stop waiting; start doing – or else you’ll be wasting your life.

2. Try doing your passion
You don't have to go full-time in pursuing your passion if it’s not profitable yet. In the beginning, you may do your passion part-time, and once it’s stable and profitable, you may go ahead and pursue it full-time.

3. Find people to support you
This is by far the best thing that you can do for yourself. Imagine a bonfire:  the wood logs are on fire. Take one wood log and put it away from the fire. What happens to its fire? It dies. When you are not surrounded with
people who will support your dreams, your dreams will die - a natural death. Just like that wood log!

So my question is simple: Is your business aligned with your passion?
