While people in urban India enjoy easy access to financial and insurance services and advisors, the populace in deep rural areas often does not have the benefit of these services. Adequate protection and growth of their hard-earned money is the desire and right of every citizen. Anupam Kumar Baranwal, the founder of Surya Capital sought to address this gap in access to financial services in rural India. With a deep passion for providing help to people dealing with non- traditional financial/investment services in the rural interiors of the country, he established Surya Capital a decade ago. Anupam made the difficult choice to not join his relatively comfortable family business and instead chose to pursue his entrepreneurial vision. He has won the CNBS IFA Award for excellence as a Financial Advisor. His big business dream is of becoming the largest network and reliable financial services provider of the nation.

In conversation with GlobalLinker (GL) Anupam Kumar (AK) shares the journey of the company.

GL: Tell us about your business and how you started.

AK: Being part of a business family, it was a difficult decision for me to start my own business.But I was reluctant to take the traditional business route. I was committed to pursue my passion to provide help to people dealing with non-traditional financial/investment services in deep rural areas of our country where nobody wants to cater their services due to lower income and fewer opportunities & high cost of servicing. Thus, began my journey of establishing Surya Capital a decade back.

GL: What are the challenges you have faced in your business journey?

AK: In the initial days communicating with customers and service providers was not easy. Every time, we had to meet them in person as they had low awareness of modern financial instruments. But we decided to not give up and hosted various kind of awareness programmes. Also, the mobile and internet revolution has helped us tremendously and made it easy to do the noble job of serving the nation and its people.

GL: How did you hear about GlobalLinker? How has it helped you?

AK: I heard about GlobalLinker through my bank. GlobalLinker gives us a whole new perspective of business expansion.

GL: What is your big business dream?

AK: My business dream is to be the largest network and reliable financial services provider of the nation.

GL: What is your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?

AK: My message to aspiring entrepreneurs is to never give up on your dream and to strive to maintain a work-life balance.
