The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) requires that every restaurant owner obtain an FSSAI licence for their establishment. One of the crucial permits needed to properly operate a restaurant without running afoul of the law is the FSSAI licence.

Along with getting FSSAI registration, all restaurants and eateries must abide by the following FSSAI regulations to guarantee the safety of their patrons. This article covers the steps involved in obtaining FSSAI Registration for Restaurants and the necessary items.

What is an FSSAI License and Registration?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is referred to by the acronym FSSAI. An institution may sell food for a profit with the help of a licence that the FSSAI has granted. Any food business operator who is engaged in the manufacture, processing, storage, distribution, or sale of food is required by law to apply for and maintain an FSSAI Registration. Therefore, the FSSAI's purview extends beyond eateries.

An FSSAI License not only serves as a legal document but also as a symbol of unsurpassed food quality. You receive a special 14-digit registration number when you register with the FSSAI. Depending on the size of your institution's activity, a licence will be granted. This acts as your restaurant's special licencing number.

Significance of FSSAI Registration for Restaurants

The following list highlights the significance of acquiring FSSAI Registration for Restaurants:

  • The food quality at your restaurant is ensured by your FSSAI licence.
  • The FSSAI logo on menus and booklets boosts the legitimacy of the restaurant industry and assures clients of the quality of the food.
  • FSSAI assists with business growth and kitchen operations standardisation in restaurants.

Follow these Steps to apply for the FSSAI License online

  • Go to FSSAI’s official website and check your eligibility for the registration or state/central license.
  • Fill out the sign-up form for the given criteria and have your account activated.
  • Start by logging into your freshly formed account and completing the application. Verify that you have all the documentation needed to meet the criterion you chose.
  • After completing the form, click submit, print the page, and keep it as a copy.
  • You would then be given a reference number that would enable you to monitor the progress of your application.
  • The selected authorities would review the application after receiving it, and they would then conduct an inspection. If the appointed inspector is pleased with the information and the physical examination, he or she will then transmit the report, after which the relevant authorities will issue the licence. It might take 60 days to complete this.

Validity of FSSAI License Registration

Depending on the length of time the food business operator requests, ranging from 1 to 5 years, the FSSAI licence or registration will be granted.

30 days before the existing request expires, the FBO must request a renewal.

Procedure for Renewal

  • FBOs can use the Renewal tab to request the renewal of any licences or registrations that have already been issued.
  • Between 120 days and 30 days prior to the license's expiration date, the renewal application must be submitted.
  • The status will read "Registration Certificate Issued" as soon as the FSSAI officials issue the FSSAI registration certificate.
  • By logging into the FoSCoS website, the candidates can download the certificate.

FSSAI Penalty and Offences

The FSSAI Act specifies the number of fines and crimes for violating it in order to guarantee the supply of healthy and safe food for human consumption.
