Definition: The relationships an organisation has with the people it does business with, including suppliers, ‘brand equity’, ‘loyalty’ and ‘goodwill’.

Example: The founder of the chain of well-known bakeries said the secret to her success was a focus on the building of customer capital in the early days of doing business through loyalty initiatives.

Business Insight: Customer capital, along with human capital, and structural capital, are the three kinds of capital that are not reflected in a firm’s balance sheet.
