Advisory for Indian products in EU: 7 – 14 January, 2020

In order to keep the Indian exporters informed of the rejections faced by Indian products in the EU and to take preventive actions FIEO is forwarding the Rapid Alert Systems for Food and Feed (RASFF) and for Non-Food Consumer Products (RAPEX) alerts on a weekly basis.

The alerts from EU generated during 7th – 14th January 2020 are as under:

Alert: Natural fairness cream (XXXXXXXXX) originated from India contain mercury (measured value: 1,7 mg/kg) banned by Norway

Natural fairness cream (Fair One Plus) containing mercury (measured value: 1,7 mg/kg) banned. Mercury accumulates in the body and can damage the kidneys, brain and nervous system. Additionally, it may affect reproduction and the unborn child. The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

  • Notification from: Norway
  • Risk: Serious
  • Measures ordered by public authorities (to: Importer): Ban on marketing of the product and any accompanying measures
  • Year - Week: 2020 – 2

Alert: Brightening moisturising solution (XXXXXXXXX) originated from India contain hydroquinone (measured value: 0,01 %) banned by Norway
Brightening moisturising solution (Fair & Lovely) originated from India contain hydroquinone (measured value: 0,01 %) banned. Hydroquinone can cause skin irritation and dermatitis. The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

  • Risk: Serious
  • Measures ordered by public authorities (to: Importer): Ban on marketing of the product and any accompanying measures
  • Year - Week: 2020 – 2

Alert: Skin lightening cream (XXXXXXXX) originated from India contain mercury (measured value: 0,1 mg/kg) banned by Norway
Skin lightening cream (Fair & Lovely) originated from India contain mercury (measured value: 0,1 mg/kg) banned. Mercury accumulates in the body and can damage the kidneys, brain and nervous system. Additionally, it may affect reproduction and the unborn child. The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

  • Measures ordered by public authorities (to: Importer): Ban on marketing of the product and any accompanying measures

Alert: Cadmium (1.4 mg/kg - ppm) in frozen squid from India

  • Notification from: Portugal
  • Risk: Serious
  • Notification type: Food - information for attention - border control - consignment released
  • Action Taken: Withdrawal from the market
  • Date: 07-01-2020
